And it's too small! Darned gauge, anyway! The yarn is a SuperWash wool from Phildar called Madison 160 in a natural cream color:
The pattern is the Sakura Hat designed by David Castillo and I love it! Generally 2 x 2 rib is mind-numbingly boring, but I persevered and the end result is a very nice hat:
The top shaping is clever but easy and comes at just the right time to keep from going bat shit crazy with boredom. In fact, I've knit this hat twice:
The first hat is just-this-much too short, so I thought a slightly longer hat would be a great Car Project, but somewhere along the way I used a smaller needle, or knit very much tighter or the Knitting Gremlins got into the yarn and arsed up the project, making it small enough to fit a child. Back to the drawing board...
UPDATE: Counted the ribs - looks like I made the smallest size this time, whereas last time I made the largest. Should have verified at the start (the first hat was with me in the car) or compared them sooner. Gauge matches perfectly. Live and learn!

That's such a nice design, it's almost enough to make me want to pick up knitting needles again. But knitting has never been my thing. Hope you are able to gift the hat to a child in need. They'll be fortunate to receive it.
Great idea, Karen! It's knit with superwash wool - the local charities want items that can be washed...
