And I'll be having another after work today. That's Stash Enhancement eXcursion for the Muggles.
Yesterday after work I had a lovely visit with a former co-worker whose roommate is de-stashing her quilting fabric. She just wanted it gone, so I got first pick before it's all hauled to Goodwill. Score! C. collects only the good stuff, and some of it was in pretty large cuts. Since I was down to only one plastic tub, this was perfect timing. Thanks so much, S.!
Today I was cruising CraigsList, as I do most days (Hello! $15.00 Singer 403A!) and noticed a woman here in town de-stashing wool and wool/silk blends. I gave her a call and it turns out that she bought them at a huge estate sale in WA and they are all designer fabrics! She wants not a lot of money so I'll stop by after work today and see how much my wallet will bear. I mean, can you go wrong with 2-3 yards of designer wool for $10.00? I don't think so. She's selling cotton cuts for $1-$2 each, too...
I mentioned that I was giving away my old Brother sewing machine. I posted it to FreeCycle and had three takers in less than an hour. I talked to #1 and made arrangements for her to come over and take a look at it. I was humming to myself, thinking how clever I was to be getting rid of it when a horrible thought intruded into my de-stashing bliss: I was giving away the only machine that I *knew* worked. Not all that smart, was it? M. has a little project he wants me to do for him, and here I was, not knowing for sure that one of my (5) vintage Singers would do the job. Okay, I knew that the 127 would sew, but I doubted it would handle what I was going to throw at it - it's a bit picky about thread, being a shuttle machine. I had some real anxiety about it, but finally decided that if the Universe wanted me to get rid of the Brother, then I should just do it and trust that another machine would be in perfect working order. I pushed it to the back of my mind and concentrated on getting caught up with my work. And posting to Ravelry. A girl's got priorities, ya know.
So on Tuesday night, while watching the season premiere of House, I fired up the 403A, thinking that it would be the best machine for the job. A little adjustment to the bobbin tension, and it runs like a top! Relief! I only sewed on some scraps because I want to give it a good oiling before I do any "real" sewing.
I thought I had posted about this before, but I went to OFFF with M. last Saturday and met up with E. who brought along some sewing machine parts. The loot included a bunch of cams for the slant-o-matics to make fancy stitches. While shopping at Goodwill on my way home on Sunday, I found a box with more cams and presser feet! So now I have 15 cams for the 403 and can't wait to put them in and see what happens.
Pictures later. I know, how lame! I blame it on Ravelry - I uploaded some pics to Flickr to link and stuff, and before I knew it, it was after 10:00 PM and I was nodding out in front of the computer. I did finish the work for The Other Boss first, I assure you!
